Eric Ford is an assistant professor of Astronomy at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. His research focuses on improving our understanding of planet formation via the study of extrasolar planetary systems. Ford's research includes computer modeling of the late stages of planet formation and the long-term orbital evolution of planetary systems, developing novel methods for analyzing exoplanet observations, and integrating theory with observations to address fundamental questions about the formation and orbital evolution of planetary systems. Ford's role in the Kepler Mission focuses on studying the shapes of the orbits of planets found by Kepler and the implications for planet formation theory. He is also contributing to the detection of planetary systems with multiple planets and exploring the potential synergies between Kepler data and follow-up observations.
